It is with deep regret that we
announce the passing of Ed Thornton.

At 96 years of age Ed was our oldest member.
He joined the fire company on May 11, 1959 with the encouragement of his pals, Dave Updegrove and
Ed Schumacher.

Several years ago when asked about his most memorable experience, he reflected about the time he and Dave Updegrove were fighting a field fire where the gun club is currently located. They could not find their way out of the corn field because the stalks were so high.

During his time as an active firefighter, Ed was
terrific mentor to the new members.

A few years ago, when Ed started spending most of his time confined to a chair in his living room, he jokingly asked if our members could cut down a tree on a  neighbor's property. He couldn't see the engines go down High Street since the tree obstructed his view.

Rest in peace "Mr Ed"
